The Dream?

Every year as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday and our struggle for civil rights, we all ask if “the dream” has been realized.  Every year there is a resounding “no” amongst our people, who acknowledge that we have come a long way but still have such a long way to go.  But THIS year, we have a Black man and a woman that both have a good chance of getting the 2008 Democratic nomination!  If either Obama or Clinton win the nomination, we will have gone far past what our parents, who grew up during segregation, expected to see during their lifetime.

With the South Carolina primary coming up, Black women are expected to play a big part in the outcome being 1/3 of the projected voters.  The question has been asked whether or not Black women will vote with their race or their gender.  Black women have dreams, and know that the best way achieve them is to vote based on the issues…we’re way too smart to make this just about race or gender.  One day they’ll get it!
