Our First Black Disney Princess!

Disney is producing a new animated musical feature film entitled “The Princess and the Frog” which will star our first Black American Disney princess named Princess Tiana!  Scheduled for release in December of 2009, the movie will take place in the 1920’s in New Orleans and will feature the jazz community as a backdrop.  Anika Noni Rose will be the voice of Princess Tiana, but Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keyes, and Tyra Banks were also considered for the role.

You know this didn’t go down without some drama…word on the street is that Princess Tiana was initially named “Maddy” and was a chambermaid…which you KNOW is not the typical job for a Disney princess.  After that got out, Disney had to make some changes.  Tiana still sounds stereotypically Black to me…but I love it!
